What is a secure location to store my Backup Code?
What is a secure location to store my Backup Code?
Updated over a year ago

Your Backup Code is critical for SecureKey recovery. It is used to recover access to your SecureKey in case you lose your device. Since your SecureKey is self-custodial, you are solely responsible for safeguarding this code. If you lose access to your device and do not have a Backup Code, recovering your funds or assets may not be possible.

To ensure its safety:

  1. Use Offline Storage: Write it on paper and store it in a secure location, like a fireproof safe or safety deposit box.

  2. Use Password Managers: Store your Backup Code in a trusted, encrypted password manager.

  3. Avoid Storing It Digitally unless Encrypted: Don’t save it online (e.g., cloud services) or on unencrypted devices. If you save it as a file in your computer, tablet, or phone — strongly consider a strong encryption to safeguard it.

  4. Keep It Private: Never share your code. GRVT staff will never ask you for your Backup Code. Beware of scammers!

  5. Check Regularly: Ensure your storage method remains safe over time.

If your Backup Code is lost, SecureKey recovery may be impossible. For questions, contact our Support team at [email protected] (note: we cannot access your Backup Code or your SecureKey).
