What are passkeys?
Passkeys provide a secure, password-free way to access applications, using authentication methods like facial recognition, fingerprint reading, physical security keys, pattern locks and PINs. On devices like phones and computers, passkeys are protected within a secure vault, which is an isolated compartment designed to keep your sensitive data safe.
Why Use Passkeys?
Passkeys make logging in easier and safer than passwords. You don't need to remember anything, your device handles everything automatically and they provide protection against security threats.
How does GRVT SecureKey use passkeys?
GRVT SecureKey uses passkeys to sign transactions.
How do I check if my device is compatible with WebAuthn/Passkeys?
You can check that your device is compatible with the GRVT UX by trying the same flow on webauthn.io. If you want to access GRVT from a new device that is not compatible with webAuthn, but you signed up with a device that was, then we encourage you to set up a Secondary SecureKey using Metamask in the original device and switch to that address.
Are passkeys tagged to one device?
Passkeys are not strictly tied to one device all the time. They can be backed up and synchronized across multiple devices using cloud services like iCloud Keychain (for Apple devices) or Google Password Manager (for Android and Chrome).
Can I add multiple passkeys to my access my GRVT SecureKey?
Yes, you can add multiple passkeys as long as the first passkey added agrees to adding the second passkey. You can manage these credentials under the SecureKey page.
Can I use the same passkey from several devices to sign transactions?
Yes, to enable usage from the same passkey, please use the Use a phone, tablet or security key
option when prompted. This allows you to scan a QR code or use a security key which may be used elsewhere. An example of the passkey prompt is shown below:
